Kwila floating steps

A good deck gives you somewhere to actually use your backyard. We build ground-level decks, raised decks, wrap-around decks and floating steps, sized to suit how you live and how your section sits.

Every deck starts with what you can't see: piles set to suit your ground, and framing that's square, level and fixed properly. On top of that we lay your choice of decking, from hardwoods like kwila to treated pine or composite boards, and finish it with oil or stain so it looks good from day one.

We can add steps, handrails, balustrades, built-in bench seating, planter boxes and pergolas so the deck fits the rest of your garden.

Common questions

Do I need building consent for a deck?

In most cases a deck less than 1.5 m above the ground doesn't need building consent, but it still has to meet the Building Code, and a deck with a drop of 1 m or more needs a safety barrier. We'll check your situation when we visit.

Kwila or pine?

Kwila is a dense hardwood with a rich colour that lasts very well. Treated pine is more affordable and looks great oiled or stained. We'll talk through the pros and cons for your deck.

How long does a deck take?

It depends on size, height and access. A small ground-level deck can take a few days; bigger or raised decks take longer. Your quote will include a timeframe.

Can you build steps and seating into the deck?

Yes. Steps, built-in bench seats and planter boxes are a big part of what we do.
