The vineyard
Boulders is a family owned boutique vineyard located on the alluvial Martinborough Terraces. In the early 1900’s the property was an unsuccessful dairy unit owned by Jack Martin, grandson of the towns founder John Martin. Much later the land became the local golf course and in 1994 Riesling GM 239 clone vines were planted by descendants of John Martin.
Martinborough’s cool maritime climate provides great conditions for producing Riesling fruit. The 2009 autumn season has been warm and settled providing ideal flowering conditions and enabling subsequent selective cropping to ensure quality and concentration of harvested fruit.

The wines
Boulders Riesling:
A distinctive off dry Riesling with citrus and stone fruit aromas emulating the Martinborough terrior. Full stone fruit flavours on the palate with a hint of residual sugar to finish. The wine has been created as an off-dry style (8.8 g/L sugar) with good acid / ph balance to be enjoyed as an aperitif or to accompany a meal of fish, chicken or Asian flavours. The wine should be enjoyed now and is best served at between 8-12 deg. Will cellar successfully for up to 5 years.

The wine has been carefully crafted by renowned wine maker Allan Johnson. The Riesling fruit has been crushed and membrane pressed, settled for 3 days and clear juice racked. An aromatic yeast (Siha 7) and a long cool fermentation (12 to 14 deg) has enhanced unique flavours of the fruit. The wine is carefully filtered for bottling.
